This is a reading program where students are able to check out books from the school library, read them, and then take a comprehension quiz on what they have read. The program allows students to earn AR points for each quiz successfully completed. At the end of the school year the points are added up for prizes.

Once your child has successfully completed the 30 high frequency words per minute, you will recieve a notice at home and a document to sign for responsiblity of books checked out of the library. Additional Goals & Incentives

After meeting the 2012-2013 class goals, additional goals and incentives will be used. The goals are based on Standards that the class may have difficulty with during assessments. The class and the teachers will work together to determine a Standard that they see might be a great goal for the class.

*Please be sure to check back often to see what additional goals will be added for the 20010-2011 class.

Personal Goals

The following are steps used to determine the personal goals set by the students.

1. The students have a Student Portfolio that they keep completed projects in. The documents placed in the Portolio are ones that the students choose throughout the year.

2. In the first few weeks of school, each student has a "mini-meeting" with the teacher to discuss and determine personal goals that the student wants to work on during the school year.

3. The teacher encourages the students to look at the pre-assessments given in the first few weeks of school, and choose one of the Standards they think they are having a difficult time with.

4. The student will draw and write about the goal(s) he/she wants to work on and meet before the end of the year. This is placed in the Student Portfolio.

5. Once personal goal(s) are met, the teacher encourages the student to create a new personal goal.
